Fruits of the Spirit Beaded Bracelets
A simple handmade Christmas gift rooted in faith This year, I wanted our Christmas to feel slower and more intentional. Less rushing to buy and wrap, and more time spent creating something meaningful together. One of the handmade projects we’re starting with is Fruits of the Spirit beaded bracelets. They’re simple enough for little hands to help with, but meaningful enough to give as gifts to teachers, friends, family, or neighbors. This project quietly invites faith into our hands and conversations, and it’s been such a joy to do together.
What I Use
To keep this project easy and approachable, I like to start with one bead kit (I use this one) that includes:
- A variety of colorful beads
- Elastic string
- Metal loops and clasps
Having everything in one set means there’s no guesswork or extra shopping trips, which makes it much more likely we’ll actually sit down and do it.
How Many Beads to Use
I’ve found that 7–8 beads of each color (for each fruit) fits beautifully for an adult bracelet, and 5-6 beads of each color fit well for a child's size. If I’m making one for an adult, I use 9 beads of each color, and it fits perfectly without feeling tight. You can absolutely adjust the number of beads depending on wrist size, but those amounts have worked well for us.
My Recommended Colors for Each Fruit
These are the colors I like to use to visually represent each fruit of the Spirit. There’s no “right” choice, but having a color assigned to each one makes the bracelet feel intentional and helps start conversations.
- Love – red
- Joy – pink
- Peace – cream
- Patience – orange
- Kindness – dark green
- Goodness – light green
- Faithfulness – navy or deep blue
- Gentleness – light blue
- Self-Control – neutral/beige
I like laying out the beads ahead of time so my child can see the full pattern before we start stringing.
How We Make Them Together
We talk about each fruit as we go, but nothing feels forced. Sometimes it turns into meaningful conversation. Sometimes it’s just quiet focus and threading beads one by one. When the bracelet is finished:
- We tie the elastic securely or attach the clasp/loop
- Trim the ends
- Attach the tag
That’s it. Simple and sweet.
The Printable Tags (Free)
To finish the bracelets, I created free printable tags that include:
- Each fruit of the Spirit
- The coordinating color that I used
- A scripture verse
These tags make the bracelets easy to gift and help connect the colors back to their meaning. We attach one tag to each bracelet before gifting so the person receiving it understands the intention behind it. You can download the printable tags for free and print as many as you need.
Why I Love This Tradition
This isn’t about perfection or crafting something elaborate. It’s about slowing down and placing faith into small, tangible moments. A bracelet might seem simple, but it carries prayer, conversation, and intention. It’s something made together, not rushed or replaced. If you’re hoping to create a more meaningful, handmade Christmas this year, this project is a beautiful place to start. More handmade ideas are coming soon, along with step-by-step instructions and supply lists for each one. 🤍
